The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is authorized by Congress to conduct research to provide information about the best available evidence to help patients and their health care providers make more informed decisions. PCORI’s research is intended to give patients a better understanding of the prevention, treatment and care options available, and the science that supports those options.


Position Summary


Lead social media efforts, responsible for social media strategy, and oversee management of organizational social media channels. This includes carrying out both the editorial and technical tasks needed to achieve the organizations’ strategic communications goals.


Duties and Responsibilities


    • Lead, design, and manage social media strategic plan for disseminating PCORI’s results and growing PCORI’s social media presence. This should be accomplished by work with internal and external stakeholders and influencers, in alignment with PCORI’s outreach, communication, and relationship-building goals to better engage with patients, researchers, clinicians, policymakers and other stakeholders.
    • Generate, edit, publish and share daily content copy for PCORI’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media properties
    • Partner with design team to create visuals for social media posts
    • Monitor the social media landscape for and report on relevant mentions of PCORI
    • Inform and engage PCORI leadership and Science and Engagement staff on utilizing social media to reach departmental and organizational goals.
    • Support PCORI leadership with their social media efforts, including supporting the development of content for the Executive Director, and providing social media basics for PCORI-developed groups, including PCORI awardee principal investigators and PCORI Ambassadors.
    • Provide recommendations on appropriate online advertising opportunities and manage social media advertising campaigns and the associated budgets for those advertising campaigns.
    • Conceive and manage live social media events, including Twitter chats, Periscope, FacebookLive, PCORI Board of Governors meetings and other pertinent events or webinars, and provide post-event reports.
    • Develop monthly social media analytics reports and utilize reports to inform future social media promotion strategy use and opportunities.

Required Skills

    • Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively required.
    • Exceptional communication skills, written and oral, including superior attention to detail.
    • Ability to perform well in a team environment and manage multiple deadline-driven projects and collaborate effectively with colleagues, external stakeholders and vendors at all levels to meet organizational goals.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and to social media platforms, including using YouTube and Vimeo for uploading, posting, transcribing, and analyzing video content.
    • Proficiency in Meltwater, TweetDeck, Symplur, and other social media listening tools preferred but not required.
    • Knowledge and/or experience using Photoshop or graphics tools preferred but not required.
    • Experience developing social media analytics reports preferred.


Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree , or a combination of education and requisite experience required; specialization in communications, health, health policy or public health, digital communications and marketing or related field strongly preferred. Master of Public Health strongly preferred.
  • Five to seven years of work experience, preferably in social media, digital communications or marketing or health fields.
