Don’t want to end up trapped in someone’s spam filter? Don’t want to be seen as a nuisance in the middle of someone’s busy work day? Let’s review the top 10 tips for success with your email marketing campaign!
- Many email readers will block images by default because they are trying to help cut down on spam or bad images. Make sure you get your point across with words; don’t rely solely on pictures.
- Use a descriptive headline. This is what will grab your reader’s attention and make them want to open the email.
- Keep the headline around 30 characters so it can be read in its entirety in the email reader.
- Avoid words and phrases such as “free”, “click here” and “limited time”. These are often picked up by spam filters, so your e-blast may never reach your reader.
- Send your e-blast on a schedule so your readers know when to expect it.
- Avoid sending the e-blast at 3am. You have the best chance of your reader opening the e-blast when they are sitting at their computer with their email open. Stick to normal work hours and Friday before noon.
- Place your most important information above the fold.
- Always include an “opt-out” link (i.e. “Unsubscribe”).
- Send your e-blast out at least once per month, but no more than once per week.
- Don’t waste your readers’ time. They aren’t sitting around waiting for your e-blast. Get to the point right away.
